Color Update: what’s going on in my Malden

You may recall I did a post a while back asking for pen advice. Well, color advice at least. While I had a lot of pretty colors to use, I just didn’t know what to use them for.

It took me a while, but I think I’ve finally got a system down. My new colors are as follows:

Black: work appointments
Blue: Social appointments/events
Purple: work to-dos
Pink: personal to-dos
Orange: Stuff for B’s schedule
Red: reminders/notifications
Dark Green: money and paydays
Light/Olive Green: workouts/fitness
Light Blue: daily gratitude list
Now, I’ve only finalized this in the last week or so– I really hope it doesn’t change too much. The only thing I don’t have a color for is my weather doodles, which may just end up being the light blue of the gratitude list. We’ll see.
I am really liking the system so far- it makes my day so much easier to just be able to look down and instantly have some idea of what I’ve got going on. Plus, it just makes my day so much prettier 🙂
How do you all use color to organize or liven up your planners?

  1. Wow! I like your system. I need to try that to pretty up my pages, and it would make for a wild rainbow party in the Malden.

Off to experiment… 🙂 Thanks for posting!

  2. I was messing around with a colour coding system. I realized I didn't like to be pinned down with ink colour, so instead I use highlighter colour to code my different entries. I use specific highlighters on my monthly spread calendar (i.e. mortgage payment due) but am much more random on my diary pages. The month view is what I look at for upcoming payments, deposits, appointments, etc.

  3. @Sandra- you should experiment! Especially with all of those lovely Frixions!

@terriknits- that's a very interesting idea! Unfortunately, I think I'd be too lazy to write, then highlight! Glad it works for you 🙂

  4. i use red for work, pink for study, purple for birthdays, green for social events, orange for bills, blue for appts, & black for 'notes to self'.

I've been using these colours for years So I've got my colour system sorted,. I just need to settle on a consistent planner /diary to use them in.

  5. I love color coding in my Malden. And now with the Frixion pens, it's that much easier. (I feel like an infomercial spokesperson.) But truly, it does help me to see what's important on my daily pages.
